How Hubble Killed God… « Parallel Divergence
A good article explaining some interesting points. Perhaps, I would have pointed out something like that sometime in the future, too (At least when my blog is visited a bit more often) However, the author did an excellent job, so it is convenient for me

I thought this was a very interesting read, and I really enjoyed all the comments. I don’t believe in God, as a matter of fact, I am not sure if I truly believe in anything. God is simply a way of defining life or giving meaning to life. However it is us (humans) who have defined “meaning” with language. Take for example, animals, who cannot give meaning to anything at all. They cannot define god, science, religion. They don’t even know the meaning of what a tree is or an automobile. Imagine a human raised by animals, with no contact with the outside world. Would he/she know who or what is god? I think that because we “understand” what is meaning, we try and give meaning to life. However just because we can define or comprehend meaning, does not truly mean that a meaning exists.

I think you’re right with everything you say. I imagined similar examples before and came to the same conclusions, especially the experiment with a kid raised without being taught anything about God.
If you don’t already know it, there is an article on wikipedia about Russell’s Teapot which you might like. Also follow the links in the article (FSM and Invisible Pink Unicorn)
